Pregnancy Care

Acupuncture can be used in a variety of ways to promote fetal and maternal health.

Pregnancy is a time of physical and hormonal changes,  and for some a time of great discomfort. Many pregnant women suffer from nausea, fatigue, body aches and other conditions that are considered a "normal" part of pregnancy. When performed by a licensed and experienced practitioner, acupuncture is a safe and widely-accepted form of treatment during pregnancy.

Acupuncture can provide relief when other treatment options are not available. Emphasis is placed on preventive care to strengthen the mother and baby, as well as dealing with problems as they occur during pregnancy. Acupuncture can be used in a variety of ways to promote fetal and maternal health.

Better Birth Treatments

The Better Birth Treatments help to relax the women, tonify Qi, and improve circulation of blood to the pelvis. Additionally, midwives and doulas report that pre-birth acupuncture provides promising therapeutic benefits in assisting women to have normal vaginal births. Studies have shown that acupuncture treatments prior to birth have a positive effect on the duration of labor by shortening the first stage of labor, and reducing the number of inductions, including first-time births. Better Birth Treatments are 60 minutes in length, weekly, and can start at any time from 37 weeks until due date. In addition to acupuncture, these treatments may also include massage. Included with the Better Birth Treatments is a tutorial and booklet on acupressure points that the woman's birthing partner can  employ to help with pain management during labor.

Prenatal massage can help by allowing the woman to relax, deepen her breath and open her diaphragm. As these muscles release, the body will find itself in a place where labor will feel “safe” and can naturally begin.
